USAPHO Exam Preparation

Preparation Strategy

The USAPhO represents a significant leap in complexity beyond the AP Physics curriculum and the F=ma exam. Its scope is expansive, encompassing the full breadth of college-level general physics: mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, optics, special relativity, and quantum mechanics. While the mechanics problems are substantially more demanding than those found on the F=ma, they require more than just technical proficiency; they demand a mastery of classical models paired with sophisticated analytical depth. Notably, recent exams have integrated cutting-edge research topics, challenging students to apply fundamental laws to modern scientific frontiers.

We recommend dedicated preparation of at least one year following the completion of all AP Physics courses and successful qualification via the F=ma exam. Furthermore, the mathematical demands of the USAPhO are high; students must demonstrate absolute fluency in single-variable calculus. While multivariable calculus is not strictly required, it is highly recommended for a more robust understanding of the material. Our year-long USAPhO Training course provides a comprehensive deep-dive into these advanced topics. We invite you to review our syllabus and ensure all mathematics and physics prerequisites are met before registration.
